NOTICE FOR NOMINATION AND E-VOTERS REGISTRATION


Election of an alumnus/alumna by the Convocation to the Selection Committee for the Next Vice-Chancellor

After having served the University for a decade, Professor Lap-Chee Tsui has decided to step down from the Vice-Chancellorship, by spring 2014 the latest.

On 20 March 2012, the University Council resolved to adopt a two-tier search and selection mechanism to facilitate the appointment of the next Vice-Chancellor, and the formation of a Search Committee and a Selection Committee for this purpose. The Selection Committee is tasked with considering and interviewing outstanding candidate(s), and recommending a finalist to the Council for appointment as the next Vice-Chancellor.

The Selection Committee will comprise, inter-alia, an alumnus/alumna elected by the Convocation. Nominations are now invited for the election to the Selection Committee for the next Vice-Chancellor.


Nomination Procedures

Since there are no election regulations for this election, it will be held, as far as practicable, in accordance with the election procedures for Standing Committee Members as stated in the Constitution and Rules.

A person who is a graduate of the University of Hong Kong, and has been a member of Convocation for not less than two years, is eligible to be nominated for the election.

Each candidate must be nominated in writing by at least ten members entitled to vote.

Nomination forms can be downloaded from the Convocation website from HERE and are obtainable at the Secretariat, c/o Development & Alumni Affairs Office, The University of Hong Kong (Tel: 2859 2603). All nominations must be accompanied by (a) a statement signed by the candidate that he/she is willing to stand for election, (b) a brief biography of himself/herself, in English, of not more than 300 words and (c) a copy of his/her photograph for publication to members.

Nominations should reach the Clerk of Convocation, c/o Convocation Secretariat, Development & Alumni Affairs Office, 738, 7/F Knowles Building, Pokfulam, The University of Hong Kong before 5 p.m. Monday, 19 November 2012. Fax or scanned copy is not a valid mode of delivery of nominations to the Clerk for this purpose.

Validity of Nomination Forms

All nomination forms must be completed with the required information and bear the original signature of each nominator.

Election Notice

The Election Notice will be published on an English and a Chinese language newspaper and on the Convocation website, and in addition will be sent by email to members who have registered their email addresses with the Convocation Secretariat. Members who wish to be eligible for e-voting are requested to register their email addresses at the Convocation website (http://www.convocation.hku.hk) before 5:00 p.m. Monday, 19 November, 2012.
